Literacy Lab

The Coastal Literacy Lab is designed to support our homeschool families. Our Literacy Lab provides small-group, evidence-based reading instruction designed to help students become confident, capable readers. Using instructional groups aligned with the University of Florida's Literacy Initiative Foundations Framework, students receive explicit, systematic instruction in foundational reading skills, including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and written language. Groups are organized by skill level rather than age alone, allowing each student to receive targeted instruction in a supportive, engaging learning environment. Whether your child is building early reading skills, strengthening foundational literacy, or working to close learning gaps, our experienced educators provide personalized instruction, regular progress monitoring, and practical strategies to support continued success at home.

Coastal
Reading Intervention

Coastal Reading Intervention provides individualized, one-on-one instruction for students who need intensive support to develop strong reading and writing skills. Designed for children experiencing significant reading difficulties and other literacy challenges, our intervention program uses structured, evidence-based practices grounded in the Science of Reading. Each student begins with a comprehensive literacy assessment to identify strengths and areas of need, allowing us to create a personalized intervention plan focused on phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and written language. Through targeted instruction, ongoing progress monitoring, and close collaboration with families, we help students build the skills and confidence they need to become successful, independent readers.

When appropriate, our educators and speech-language pathologists work together to address the language skills that support successful reading, providing families with a coordinated approach to literacy development.

Learning Assessments

Every child learns differently, and understanding how your child learns is the first step toward lasting academic success. Coastal Learning Assessments provide a comprehensive evaluation of literacy, mathamaitcs, and foundational academic skills to identify strengths, pinpoint learning gaps, and guide meaningful instruction. Our experienced educators use research-based assessment tools to evaluate areas such as phonological awareness, phonics, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, reading comprehension, spelling, writing, and other essential literacy skills. Following the assessment, families receive a detailed summary of results, individualized recommendations, and a personalized learning plan that provides clear next steps to help their child reach their full potential with confidence.

Friday Literacy Enrichment

Coastal Friday Literacy Enrichment is a fun, engaging program designed to inspire a lifelong love of reading, writing, and learning. Created especially for homeschool students, this weekly enrichment experience combines high-quality literacy instruction with interactive, hands-on activities that encourage creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. Students participate in literature studies,  vocabulary and language games, readers’ theater, book discussions, and project-based learning while building confidence and connecting with peers in a supportive environment. Led by experienced educators, Friday Literacy Enrichment provides homeschool families with a meaningful extension of their learning week while fostering strong literacy skills and a vibrant learning community.
